Title: Microfluidics-guided fluorescent nanodiamond assembly method for highly sensitive thermometry
Authors: Keita Saikawa, Masaya Zetsu, Daiki Ueshima, Taiichi Shikama, Ken-ichiro Kamei, Osamu Tabata, Yoshikazu Hirai
In this study, we tackled a key challenge in fluorescent nanodiamond (FND)-based thermometry—enhancing sensitivity for practical applications. FNDs with nitrogen vacancy centers (NVCs) hold great promise as thermometers, but their sensitivity depends on effective assembly.
We developed a microfluidics-guided assembly method to fabricate vertically aggregated FND clusters, significantly improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and enabling high-accuracy temperature mapping. The result is a scalable, high-sensitivity FND thermometer array with potential applications in chemistry, electronics, and biology.
This work was made possible through a fantastic collaboration with Prof. Hirai, Prof. Shikama, and Mr. Saikawa from Kyoto University. We sincerely appreciate their contributions and insights!
